The low price is not the only advantage (10% to 40% of a new robot): it is often available at once, which permits a shortest pay-back.
Besides, the less recent robots are often easier to use because less informatics and options. And last but not least, the performances are often not far from the new robots, for example with arc welding where the advance speed is given by the welding process and the quality of the beam widely depending of the welder.
Nevertheless, some traps to avoid for a used robot:
- Don’t choose a too old robot: avoid continuous current motos because of the maintenance and sometimes out of safety recommandations
- The used robot should not have produced during 10 years, 3 shifts, specially for handling robots : if that, it has to be refurbushed, including electric beam changing and remove backlash in reducers
